Groggy Ontarians were again forced to adjust their eyes when millions woke up on Sunday morning as Daylight Saving Time began and clocks sprang forward. But is it that simple?Doctors in the U.S. are speaking out on the yearly time change, which, in Canada, starts on March 12, 2023, and will end on Nov. 5, 2023, noting that Daylight Saving Time has been linked to an increase in cardiac events.A 2020 study revealed what scientists called “detrimental health effects,” including the incidence of acute myocardial infarction (MI) and increased ischemic stroke following both spring time transitions. It was mentioned that conditions affecting sleep are known to provoke atrial fibrillation (AF), yet, the effect of Daylight Saving Time transitions on AF “is unknown.”Sleep specialists and health experts point to a relatively simple issue: while Daylight Saving Time increases exposure to light, it can make it harder for people to get to sleep, thus leading to an array of...Pfizer will spend $43 billion to acquire Seagen

Trae Bodge, a shopping expert who lives in the New York City area, sees higher prices for products and services marketed to women everywhere: Socks, razors, shampoo and apparel are a few of the product types aimed at women that tend to cost more.“I don’t know why brands think this is acceptable,” Bodge says. “It’s another punch to the gut as we’re trying to manage our budgets right now,” she adds, referring to rising prices across consumer goods categories due to inflation. The phenomenon known as the “pink tax,” when products and services aimed at women cost more than their counterparts aimed at men, is well-documented across many goods and services. A 2021 paper co-authored by Stephanie Gonzalez Guittar, assistant professor in the sociology department at Rollins College in Florida, found that women pay more for deodorants and lotions, and that personal care products are increasingly differentiated by gender. For example, lotion for women cost an average of $2.97 per ounce compared ...Monday Forecast: Temps in low 30s with snow showers

LOS ANGELES (AP) — It’s during the commercial breaks that the audience inside the Dolby Theatre really comes to life on Oscar night. The stars will gladly play for the cameras posted in their face during the global broadcast – they are actors after all – but a lot of the time it seems like most would rather just talk to their fellow artists in the room. The breaks may go on for an eternity for people watching the Oscars at home but in the Dolby, they’re never long enough as stars on the main floor abruptly end conversations and rush to take their seats again. The beginning of the show is always a scramble as security, organizers and a booming voice of god all try to coax attendees to their seats in time for the live broadcast start. Some barely made it in, like “The Last of Us” and “The Mandalorian” star Pedro Pascal, whose handler pleaded to let him in because of his appearance in host Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue, while others, like Elizabeth Banks, seem to have been shut out of the open...Free fridge opens in Del Valle food desert

Why no one can agree

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) - Amarillo has been colloquially referred to as a "halfway point to anywhere," as well as "the center of the known universe" due to its unique position in the United States and its central location in "the big boxy part at the top" of Texas. Halfway across the historic Route 66 and nestled one short drive away from four neighboring states, Amarillo is considered a hallmark of the American West. And the American South. And the Great Plains. The Texas Panhandle exists in a somewhat nebulous state in that government departments, researchers, and locals appear to disagree on whether the region should be considered western, southern, or central in the U.S. However, the Texas Panhandle isn't the only region that provokes these conversations; they happen all across the state. Where is Texas, anyway, and why do so many people disagree? The answer may seem noncommittal: It depends on who you ask, and why. Texas covers over 268,597 square miles of land, reaching as...03/13/2023: Gearing up for a big nor'easter
