HONOLULU (KHON) — Kilauea, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, began erupting Sunday after a two-month pause, displaying glowing lava that is a safe distance from people and structures in a national park on the Big Island. The Hawaii Volcano Observatory said the eruption was observed in the afternoon at the summit of Kilauea. The observatory said gases released by the eruption will cause volcanic smog downwind of Kilauea. People living near the park should try to avoid volcanic particles spewed into the air by the eruption, the observatory said.Visitors to the Big Island’s Hawaii Volcanoes National Park were advised of potential for a dusting of powdery to gritty ash due to the composition of volcanic glass and rock fragments. The volcano’s alert level was raised to warning status and the aviation color code went to red as scientists evaluate the eruption and associated hazards. In June, Kilauea erupted for several weeks, displaying fountains of red lava without threatening a...Triple digit days end as rain chances ramp up

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma came from Jeremy and it's about housesitting. Here's his email: Get the latest news, weather, and sports delivered right to your inbox! Hi Jaime. Here's my issue. I had to leave on business for a couple of weeks and paid a local college-aged guy in the neighborhood a few hundred bucks to stay at my house and watch over the place. He was allowed to stay over, eat whatever he wanted, and was given free reign and trust. When I came back, however, I noticed that the couch I’d just paid over three-grand for had some major stain damage. Now, I’m wondering if it’s appropriate to bill him for cleaning it. It’s a light-colored fabric, and now it’s loaded with what looks like Cheeto dust, condiments, and fingerprint dirt. Any thoughts on this from anyone? Thanks.JeremyThis is a tough one. I've had people housesit my home before. Sometimes you come home, and your house is cleaner than when you left, and sometimes you come home and it's...St. Charles County considering property tax freeze for senior citizens

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. - The St. Charles County Council is set to vote on a property-tax freeze for seniors Monday night. If the bill passes, the county would become the first in the region to approve this kind of tax break. The measure that the St. Charles County Council is voting on would localize the one that the Missouri legislature passed earlier this year. Governor Mike Parson signed it into law.The new Missouri law allows individual counties to freeze property tax rates on the primary homes of people ages 62 and up. It would also create a tax credit to offset the cost of their property taxes and end state taxes on social security benefits starting in 2024.The proposed legislation also ends state taxes on social security benefits starting in 2024. The tax freeze would apply to all taxing jurisdictions located within St. Charles County. Think things like school districts and fire districts, not just the portion of a property tax bill that goes to the county itself. Tri My Be...Police investigating fatal north St. Louis County crash
